There's nothing wrong with idealism, but I think your post is optimism without foundation. You talk a lot about change for the better and people needing to know how things used to be. Yes, obviously slavery ended. And Brown v. the Board of Education happened in 1954. But now, today, there's a huge black underclass that clogs prisons and rehab centers because they're unable to ascend into the middle class, caught in a cycle of poverty and racism that, in the minds of many, reinforces the belief that blacks can't do any better anyway, and those that do are beneficiaries of affirmative action. Let's not forget that the Rodney King riots happened a lot more recently than Brown--and that powderkeg is always waiting to erupt again because the problems are not only getting worse, but no one seems inclined to solve them.
